Next year, 2013, will be a great year for those in Center Grove wanting trails. We worked with the Johnson County government in 2007 to apply for our first grant called Safe Routes to School. And, we have helped to receive three grants that total $659,000 to build two trails. Finally, in 2013, these trails will be built. One trail is in Brentridge Estates and includes a pedestrian bridge, completed sidewalks in Brentridge Estates, and heads west along the north edge of the soccer fields to Morgantown Road, south to Center Grove Elementary School. Total length is estimated to be 2,700'. The other trail is located along Stones Crossing Road between the School Administration Building and the entrance to Forrest Hills Subdivision. This will be a 120' X 6' pedestrian bridge over Honey Creek along with connected sidewalks. Both of these trails will improve safety for our children and anyone wanting to go to and from our schools safely. A map will be included on this website for your information. With both trails completed it will allow a continuous loop on sidewalks, pedestrian bridges, and 10' wide trails beginning from Forrest Hills Subdivision west to Morgantown Road, north to the entrance of Brentridge Estates, and south back to the entrance of Forrest Hills Subidivision. Thank you for all the community support for both these projects! We will keep you posted on this website of any updates to these projects.

Each trail needs amenities like benches, trail signs, markers, posts, art and much more. Now is the time to plan for trail enhancements before contract bids are released. Planning for future sites for trail heads, artwork or naming rights with plaques are just a few reasons that discussions are currently underway for the community's first public pedestrian bridge and paths. One idea would be to have a permanent concrete platform set aside for an annual art display along the pedestrian walkway. Art enhances the trail experience and stimulates creative thinking while promoting the public's connection to nature and our community. Having this concrete platform included in the contract bids would allow a savings rather than to put a platform in years after the walkway is completed. Our organization is working with the Center Grove School Community to open up ideas of the potential for enhancements along the two planned trails to be completed in 2013. We will be working closely with the various art, science, and fitness departments to find ways we can all benefit from having a trail and pedestrian bridge close to the school campus. Field trips from the elementary or middle school could be possible, fitness events could be held, and of course outdoor artwork on display or painting outside like one of the french old masters used to do.
Contact us at 317-885-1290 or email if you want to help with planning for our trails and pedestrian bridges in Center Grove. Thank you.

Our trails group helped the Johnson County government to apply for another Safe Routes to School grant which covers the project 100%. This bridge will be built across Honey Creek to connect Forest Hills to the Center Grove Community School Corporation Administration building on Stones Crossing Road. This all began with Cassie Burnett and her friends wanting to build this bridge and it was originally called the CG Community Bridge. The grant is for $250,000!! Center Grove Trails plans to help enhance this bridge by raising funds from our annual 5K Run/Walk held in conjunction with the WRTFD Strawberry Festival. When the bridge is finished it will provide a safe way for anyone to walk/jog/ride bicycles to and from the middle school, elementary school or high school. After school athletics an also use this bridge as the safe alternative than using Stones Crossing Road. Congratulations to everyone in Center Grove! |
